Love Story

These words have been carved into the steps leading up to a house in Amsterdam. A message from a lover to the beloved, who steps lightly over them on her way to paradise.

This may be yet another example of unrequited love, love not reciprocated, even though reciprocation is deeply desired. The beloved may not even be aware of their admirer's deep affections.

This can lead to feelings of depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, and rapid mood swings between depression and euphoria.

"A mighty pain to love it is,
And 'tis a pain that pain to miss;
But of all pains, the greatest pain
It is to love, but love in vain."
