Right now I'm obsessed by the stylish photos of the Armenian-born photographer Van Leo, who lived in Cairo. I love this little girl's butch stance, her back-to-front hat and her outrageous outfit. Perhaps it's not surprising that she grew up to be a famous Egyptian actress called Sherihan.

The photo was taken in the 1970s. It's definitely worth googling Van Leo's photos. He made a lot of his best stuff before the 1952 revolution: very glamourous, very sophisticated!
