Sea of Trees

It is twilight, the witching hour, and you keep walking, losing yourself ever deeper in this Sea of Trees: the Aokigahara Forest at the base of Mount Fuji. Some people will never return, their bones scattered amongst the roots, moss and fungi by scavenging animals. They are the suicides, who hang themselves from these velvety branches at a rate of one every ten days and rising since the advent of the credit crisis. Others are more pragmatic: they come in search of the abandoned credit cards and wads of money: a ghostly legacy of those seeking a way out.
