Miss Moody

Last year at the Temple of Bel in Syria, I was fascinated by the teenager on the right. I loved her defiance.

So why is she so pissed off?

Is it:

- Because she doesn't like being photographed?

- Because she hates traipsing around after her mother (the lady in black in the foreground) and would rather be gossiping with her mates?

- A definite case of PMS?

- All of the above?

- None of the above. If so, please elaborate.

Screaming for Culture

This message on the window of an Amsterdam gallery announces that "due to the cuts and increased value added tax (...) on culture, we will be at the Leidseplein from 3.30 p.m. onwards". There, they and many others kicked up quite a stink, literally screaming about the importance of culture in these times of economic gloom.

A total of 100,000 people screamed for culture throughout the Netherlands which, in such a small country, is not at all bad.

Reflections

I love reflections. They're like hallucinations in every window. What's real, what's not.

Empress

Inside and outside, two worlds meet in this image. The spot-lit Empress with her golden turban melts into the twilight shadows of Amsterdam.

Fierce Glamour

With her tattooed fingers and gold-plated, diamond-studded teeth, Michèle Lamy consumes jewelery by the handful in this month's French Vogue.

Stories currently circulating about her that she's:

- 1,600 years old
- an arms dealer
- a witch
- a vampire
- the mother of a daughter called Scarlett Rouge
- the wife and muse of fashion designer Rick Owen
- all of the above

So what do you think?

Divine Decadence

Singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg as snapped by photographer William Klein for the cover of the album "Love on the Beat". Love the fingernail... very sexy in a perverse kind of way...

Where the Streets Are Paved With Gold...

Amsterdam in a glorious autumn of fluttering leaves, intoxicating colours and leaden skies.

It makes you high. It makes you stop thinking.
